CLOC auditions twice a year, normally in June and November. Auditions are carried out at CLOC Central, 32 Dane Road, Moorabbin, Victoria, Australia. CLOC auditions are a closed initial audition in front of an independent audition panel usually comprising the Director, Musical Director and Choreographer, with one of the CLOC Committee as the Chairperson. Call Backs and Dance auditions are mostly open auditions in front of the same audition panel.
CLOC Musical Theatre promotes an inclusive environment and welcomes all ethnicities, sizes, age ranges and genders to audition for its productions
Rehearsals are at the same venue as auditions and are normally Monday and Wednesday nights 7:30pm- 10:30pm and Sunday afternoons between 1:00pm and 5:00pm. CLOC is thrilled to present the Victorian amateur premiere production of Billy Elliot, The Musical. Co-director/Choreographer Lynette White, Co-Director/Set Designer Chris White and Musical Director, Tony Toppi, bring considerable experience to their roles, having extensively directed musicals for both adults and children. CLOC’s production team will be looking for an adult cast who are strong, compassionate, of all ages, genders and sizes. Good vocals and dance ability are a pre-requisite to play principal roles as well as perform in the ensemble (miners, police officers, Royal Ballet School Officials, family members) with numerous cameo roles.
So grab the opportunity to audition and let your talent SHINE! Billy Elliot will be staged at The National Theatre, St Kilda in May 2024
Minimum age for adult auditionees: 18 plus at February 4, 2024
Minimum age for child auditionees: 9 plus at February 4, 2024
PRELIMINARY NOTES FOR CHILDREN:
*** Please be advised that some characters (including young cast members) will hear and may be required to swear and use adult language during the show. There are also adult themes. ***
Billy Elliot is one of the most heart-warming, coming-of-age stories of a working-class boy’s discovery of his love for dance and in particular, ballet, and his battle to pursue his passion against the pressure to conform to his circumstances. It underscores a powerful message: “accept yourself and never give up your dreams”.
CLOC’s Production Team will be looking for boys aged 9 to 14 years to audition for the roles of Billy and Michael and girls aged 9 to 13 years to audition for the role of Debbie. In addition to these ballet- shoe donning roles, the team is also looking for toe-tapping youngsters to play Ballet Girls as well as a tall boy and a small boy aged 9 to 14. Ballet Girls should be between 9 to 15 years of age and be skilled in Tap and Ballet. We need ‘triple threat’ children who can make that connection with the audience.
For all roles, and as part of the audition process, Tap and Ballet experience is necessary. We will also be seeking out acrobatic candidates, with Jazz & Contemporary experience. For the most part, the auditions for children will be conducted in a group ‘workshop’ style with children being given the opportunity to sing, dance and participate in an emotive activity.
REHEARSALS
Whilst the schedule is still to be finalised, CLOC rehearses on a Sunday from 1.00pm and on Monday and Wednesday from 7.30pm. There is a possibility that children will be required for daytime rehearsals during the school holidays towards the end of January 2024. Children may also be required on Sunday mornings from 10.00am – 12.30pm.

Auditions will be conducted November 10-16, 2023. Detailed audition information will be available on CLOC’s website from October 6 with audition bookings opening at 9am on Friday October 27. If you wish to receive audition information at that time, then you need to register on the tab above
