When truth is stranger than fiction…or is it?
Based on the 2002 hit film of the same name starring Leonardo Di Caprio and Tom Hanks, the adventure romp Catch Me If You Can captures the astonishing story of Frank Abignale Jr, a world-class con artist who passes himself off as a multitude of identities, including a doctor, a lawyer, and a jet pilot - all before the age of 21. When Frank’s antics catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, the story becomes a study of two sparring partners hot footing it across the globe yet connected by a secret mutual admiration.
Nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Musical, this fast-paced, entertaining show was created by a Tony Award-winning "dream team," with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime) and a 60s swinging, big band score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Smash).
Returning to CLOC as director/set designer after a spectacular production of Jersey Boys will be Richard Perdriau. Making up the production team will be Musical Director, Tony Toppi (Mamma Mia) and a new face to CLOC as Choreographer, Felicity Bender.
Join us for a wild ride through the 1960’s with high energy dance numbers and a riveting story about an incredible con artist who manages to fool so many for so long, with nothing more than his charm, imagination and chutzpah.
Catch Me If You Can will take flight at the National Theatre St Kilda, May 12-27, 2023.
Preferential bookings open Monday February 13, 2023.
